How To Struggle Less With Your Retirement

The most significant struggle people have with retirement is what to do with their time.

I accomplished more personal goals in the last two and a half years since I retired than when I was working. At first, I struggled to find my place in the world, but with a lot of thought and planning, I discovered it.

It is too easy to sit on a couch and binge-watch television programs. No one will tell you it is time to go to bed. You do not need to get up in the morning to go to work. You eat when you want, shower late at night, and then stay up to play games on your cell phone long after your neighbors extinguish their porch light.

You do not have to spend Sundays preparing for the week ahead. You no longer have a boss. You are in charge here. And there is your conundrum. Your days need more structure.

A glance at your watch says it’s 11:00 a.m. You lean back in your chair and think about what you did a week ago. Nope. It was a month ago. Retired for a month, you wonder where the time has gone.

Oh, you used to be so busy. Then, you had to come home, eat, feed your pet, and do the dishes. There were plants to water, lawns to mow, and laundry to do. And now? Now that your chores are done, you are bored to tears.
